Where Is Cape Race, Australia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cape Race is the southernmost tip of the Avalon Peninsula that is situated on the island of Newfoundland in Canada. It is a piece of land that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean with peculiar cliffs that are as high as 100 feet above sea level. It was first discovered by an Australian geologist by the name of R C Sprigg. It is a short distance away from the main Trans – Atlantic shipping routes and hence has witnessed many a shipwreck. This is largely owing to its climate (it is enveloped in a thick fog almost half the year) and its rocky coast. The first time that this location appeared on the map was during the early 16th Century. It is said that the name comes from 'Raso' which was the Portuguese name given to the Cape.
