When you are excercising, this causes pressure which arises from exercise to increase the blood circulation, where heart has to pump more blood. This means that your heart rate has to increase in order to pump the blood.

Exercise results in an increase in heart rate to provide more blood and oxygen to the exercising muscles. It also dilates (expands) blood vessels. With regular exercise, the heart becomes stronger and more efficient in terms of circulating blood. A stronger heart pumps more blood with each contraction and so the heart rate does not increase as much with exercise if conditioned individuals.
