    Born Geoffrey Charles Hurst in Ashton - Under - Lyne, England in December nineteen forty one, Hirst played for England on forty nine occasions, scoring twenty four goals.  

    Hurst is most famous for his three goals in the nineteen sixty six world cup final against West Germany at Wembley.  To this date Hurst is still the only player in history to score a hat trick in a world cup final.  

    Hurst spent the majority if his club playing career at London side West Ham United.  He signed for the Hammers in nineteen fifty nine and remained with the club until nineteen seventy two, playing four hundred and eleven games for the club and scoring one hundred and eighty league goals.  

    He was part of the same West Ham United side that produced the England world cup winning captain Sir Booby Moore.  

    In nineteen ninety eight, Hurst was knighted for his service to football, in particular his goals in the sixty six world cup final.
