Since introduction of the One Child Policy in 1980, 400 million Chinese less were born through this rather drastic measure to stop population growth and prevent poverty and famine, particularly in rural regions... "Oriental Tradition" has led to the consequence, that a dangerous surplus of male births exists today – in a quota of 100:118. In most regions of the world this ratio is 100:105;
70% of Chinese have no pension fund and rely on their children to support them in old age. Tradition has it, that boys are better suited to do this than girls. Statistics and experts say, that by 2020 approx. 30 million Chinese men in marriageable age will not find a woman. Government claims that by that time it will have taken measures to create a balance!
As immediate measure, sex-determination during ultrasound-examinations of pregnant women is strictly prohibited= doctors are no longer allowed to tell the sex of the child after/during examination of pregnant mothers.
It will be interesting to see if "Oriental Tradition" will change until 2020, and why not? No country has undergone more drastic changes faster in the last 60 years – and especially in the last 20 years, than this huge country, leaving the rest of the world in awe!

It will be interested to see if Chinese men will - by 2020 - be desperate enough to reverse prevailing tradition - and pay dowry to the family of the bride, instead of sitting at the receiving end of it!
