Mira is basically a red giant star, which are around 418 light-years away in the constellation Cetus. Mira is a double star, Mira A being the giant, along with Mira B, a white dwarf. Mira A is also an oscillating changeable star and was the primary non-supernova changeable star exposed, with the probable omission of Algol. Apart from the strange Eta Carinae, Mira is the brightest episodic changeable in the sky that is not able to be seen throughout the part of its cycle. Its distance is doubtful; pre-Hipparcos estimates centred approximately 220 light-years, while Hipparcos data suggests a distance of 417 light-years, although with an edge of error of 14 per cent. Mira is just about 400 years. Mira became the "category" star of the long-period "Mira variables".
