    Been.  Lived it.

Not the glamorous tourist attraction many Americans appear to think it is.

I've lived in Arizona for over 40 years and there are many Indian reservations located throughout the state.  The Navajo and Hopi reservations are beautiful because of the natural high desert landscape.  The native Americans also set up their traditional vendor stands along the highways selling jewelry, rugs, pottery and many other items which shares some of their history.

Where I grew up in Washington State, there were Indian Reservations all over the place. Some just little pocket sized areas. Mostly people went to the Reservations to buy cigarettes (to avoid the state taxes), to buy fireworks (that were illegal everywhere else) or to play bingo. And now to gamble to apparently. Most of Reservations that were near the urban areas were not tourist attractions at all. Mostly run down housing and not enough money to take care of the streets.
Here in California the Reservations are all about the Casinos.

Been to many reservations.  I think my favorite was Sky City in Arizona.. Or was it New Mexico (it's been quite a while)?  Anyway, the highlight of the place is a village and mission built up on top of a mesa.  Went up there and checked it out.  Was really cool... They had a very interesting museum, and demonstrated some very skilled silversmithing.  Heck of a view from up there.  When the natives converted to Christianity, and helped build the mission.. As an act of faith, they cut and carried the huge beams (took about 40 men to pick each up) hundreds of miles... Never letting them touch the ground.

We have numerous reservations around here.  Lots of Cherokee settled here, as this is the end of the Trail of Tears... But there are several other tribes which were native to this area too.  I attend a pow-wow about once every couple months or so on our reservation lands near Grove OK.  My ancestors are mainly Scottish and Cherokee.  Many scots married into Cherokee tribes, as they found the tribal structure of Cherokee society to be more similar to their Celtic clan structure, therefore more familiar to them, than the "white" culture which had established itself here.

I have many times the Sioux the Cherokee and one thing I have seen is the same in White Mans as well is that our government and the tribal government lives in nicer places and has more than the common people

Ain't THAT the truth? I have seen the same things on our reservations. It has been my experience that my native amerind relations are no more "noble" than my white relations.

You forgot to leave your rating again. It isn't a problem, he just did a little, didn't break us. Not even enough to stress over, less than $100.

I have.  It is like a foreign country in the sense that you cannot say you have visited until you have had drinks and dinner with the natives, shopped in the "local market", toured a school and a clinic.  Even that does not scratch the surface.  Anything less is really superficial.

Not meaning to discount anyone else's experience.  It is just that I have been to a lot of different places in the world, and they all were interesting in one way or another.  However, in most ways they seemed the same to me unless I had the time to experience the environment and try to learn something about the culture from the locals.  Come to think of it, I felt that way about New York City too.
