The reason for a dog to put on weight is more or less the same as those applicable to human being. Once the dog has achieved its full growth potential consult a vet to recalculate the diet chart. In spite of diet control full nutritional needs are to be met otherwise the dog may become thin or fat, showing problems like dry skin, coat problem etc.
