Depending on what is on the cabnets now stain or paint? What i do is remove all hardware . Put it in a bucket or container to keep from being miss placed. If you have a palm sander this will help speed up the process of getting a smooth ,unfinished look .i use a 220 paper. I don't want to remove the paint as much as i want to remove the sheen .depending on the color change will decide what product you use to cover the existing paint or what tint .your local paint store can help with this. Sand down all of the cabnets and shelfing.you can also use a sanding block or sandpaper. I recommend using an oil base paint ,rolled on with a hotdog /sausage roller, its faster and you will have a smoother custom finish look.two coats of paint should do it ,again depending on your existing color.remember to work in a well ventilated area or wear something over your nose and mouth.
