How Did The Cocktail Shirley Temple Get Its Name?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The cocktail Shirley Temple was created by a bartender at Chasen's restaurant which is located in Beverley Hills CA. The cocktail is named after child actress Shirley Temple, who frequently visited the restaurant.

The drink basically is a non-alcoholic mixture made from Ginger ale, grenadine syrup and orange juice decorated with a maraschino cherry and piece of lemon. The Ginger Ale is usually replaced by 7 Up, Sprite, or identical lemon-like soft drink, and the orange juice is generally left out. Since it is non-alcoholic it is mainly served to young children and is at times known as kiddie cocktail.

The drink was created because Shirley was too young to consume alcohol like the other stars who visited the restaurant. Over the period of years the drink became so popular that it was made available in bottles in supermarkets.
