Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are diverse types of music coexisting with each in the Caribbean islands of the West Indies.

One of these that is characteristic with the region since a long time and still remains popular is Reggae. Reggae includes the genres of Ska, Rocksteady and Dub. Raggae is mostly linked with the Rastafari movement in the seventies and eighties. Reggae deals with topics like social issues, love and sex.

Another popular form of music in this region is Calypso; a style of Caribbean folk music. This style of music began when the African slaves in the British colonies interacted with each other through music as they were not permitted to converse. It has since evolved into a very important form of music or the inhabitants.

A new music style that has recently found its way into this region is the new age Zouk. It is essentially "party" music.
