Do Cosmetics Have A Use-by Date?

As strange as it may seem, make up does actually have a used by date. However, while many people do know this, they don't always know when to change their make up. It is tempting and logical to use our make up until it has completely ran out, after all, we spent good money on it! However, sometimes make up needs changing before it runs out so it is always worth knowing the shelf life of each item of make up that you own.

Most cosmetics do not have a use by date on them because it isn't a legal requirement. This means that often you have to rely upon common sense. Mascara for example when out of date, will clog up and become dryer than it was in the beginning. Usually old make up is not as effective as new stuff so that is another tell tale sign.

As a general rule make up over three years old is usually out of date but again this is common sense. It is usually recommended that you change your make up every six months or so but regular cleaning can help keep your cosmetics less harmful therefore you can use them for longer.
