The thing is, lots of little places have very high % of their land in forest cover. Which sounds great, but doesn't add up to much land over all. The area in forest in Cook Islands adds up to 22,000 ha.
Gabon is 84.5% forested.
The Republic of Congo is 65.8% forested.
Within Africa, Dem. Rep. Of Congo, has most forest cover, though. 58.9% of its own land, and half of Africa's total. It adds up to 133.6 million ha. 45% of this is considered primary rainforest.
The small mountain kingdom of Bhutan claims to have the highest percentage of its land in forest and especially protected sanctuaries (26.3% of total area), of any Asian country.
Within Europe, Ireland has the lowest percentage (about 5%) land cover of woodland cover. Britain is usually about 2nd lowest in Europe, at about 10%. Within the EU, Finland. Leads the way; 72% of its land is forested.
