The National Council of Education Research and Training is a governmental body responsible for developing textbooks for the schools of India. In July of 2006 NCERT released PDF copies of all the textbooks from class I to XII for families to download from computers. These are the NCERT books developed by NCERT for all students of India.

Making the books available through the Internet is the simplest method for getting books into the hands of those who cannot afford to purchase books. NCERT is under the Union Department of Education and the Minister of Education in India. NCERT is responsible for the training of teachers in the use of these books.

NCERT books are published in English and Hindu although the language of the schools in India is English. Other countries may also move toward in this direction, in order to get textbooks into the hands of children in poor countries around the world. Some see the possibility of developing a single education system around the globe in such subjects as mathematics, science and English. A single system for subjects such as geography and history would demand the inclusion of specific information related to the counties, so textbooks would be different depending upon the country in which they would be used. However, thus far no one has a found solution to this concern, so the concept of a worldwide single educational system is at a standstill.

A familiar term used to defend the NCERT books is Values Education with the goal of creative education on all levels. The blue borders within the NCERT books provide information specific to India's life and people. NCERT books as most books with blue or red borders or blue lettered entries include additional knowledge and explanations to support and expand the basic information found in the regular text. Students should read this material in order gain fuller knowledge of the subject they are studying. The information is blue/red borders or blue text clarifies and enlarges upon the basic information.

I suggest you go to your NCERT book and read a page, then read the material in the blue border. I think you will discover you learned more about the subject by reading the additional information. Enjoy learning!
