Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

People were practicing on breath-holding diving for centuries. There is no direct evidence that from where it comes from but there are some indirect evidence, like thousand-year old underwater work of art was found on land and that artifact represent the divers in antique drawings.

It is always exciting to go under water to: discover artifacts, repair ships, observe marine life and so on. In ancient times people used to breathe underwater with the help of hollow reed which allows the body to be sunk, but reeds over 2 feet long don't work well. In 16th century people started using the diving bells filled with air from the surface. Then in the same century leather diving suits were made and were used to lowest point of 16 feet and soon helmets were made. In 19th century compressed air pumps, carbon dioxide scrubbers, regulators, etc were made possible for people to stay undersea for long time periods.

There are four types of diving:

    • Breath-hold diving is used for sport and commercial purposes.
    • Heavy-walled vessel Diving
    • Compressed air provided from the surface
    • Compressed air carried by the divers.
