Why Are Polymers Weaker And Less Stiff Than Metals?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The polymers are the large number of atoms which are linked with  each other. It is known as a polymer because it consists of repeated monomers. Polymers are less stiff as compare to the metals because they consist of loose bonds which are usually the covalent bonds. On the other hand, metals have strong metallic bonds, which bring the atoms very closer to each other. In this way the loose bonds of polymers just link the atoms and do not bring them closer to each other. That is why metals are stiffer as compare to the polymers.
