Low Force, in County Durham is a set of waterfalls flowing in the Tees Valley in England. The Tees Valley is a rapidly developing area in North East England. It is also described as "greater Teesside" consisting of four unitary authorities who have been created in the year 1996 by the division of the County of Cleveland: Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Stockton-On-Tees and Redcar & Cleveland. It also includes the borough of Darlington a unitary authority since the year 1997.
Further upstream from Low Force is the High Force waterfall. The mighty High Force is well known as England's largest waterfall.
Force is a word which is of Viking origin, that derives from the Old NorseFors and it simply means waterfall. Low Force is also the location of the Wynch Bridge. This is the world's first ever suspension bridge that was built. The construction was completed in the year 1830. Ideally it is recommended that the bridge should be crossed by just one individual at a time.
