What Happened At Fatima?

It is said that an image of the Virgin Mary appeared to three young shepherd children at Fatima in Portgual on May 13th1917. The children were told to return on the 13th of each month for 6 months. On the first visit, the children were alone, but when they spoke of their experiences to others, word quickly spread, and, on each of the successive visits, they were accompanied by growing crowds.

When the apparition allegedly spoke to the children, no one else could see it or hear it; however, some claimed they saw other strange things such as a globe of light, or a tree moving into the clouds. The children faced a great deal of scepticism about what they claimed to have seen and, in order to quiet it, one of the children asked Mary to make some visible sign so that people would believe. The apparition is said to have told the child that a visible sign would be made on the last visit. When the day of the last visit came, a huge crowd had gathered, including a large number of sceptical journalists. What happened then is now referred to as The Miracle of the Sun. It is said that the sun spun, moved around and changed colours.
