The female lays her eggs in five or sex batches. Each batch contains about one hundred and fifty eggs. The eggs arc lay in; rotting, animal and plant remain including human faces. The white cylindrical eggs hatch out in less then twenty-four hours to white larvae or maggots. The body of the maggot is made up of segments without any legs. It is pointed at the front end but very broad at the hind end. The small head of the maggot bears a very well-developed mouth, with which it tears up its food.
On the ventral surface of the later half of the maggots arises a small pad from each segment. These pads take the place of legs. The maggots have two pairs of spiracles, one pair in front and the other in the last segment. The maggot's like dark places. It sheds its skin twice. After the second moulting, it grows very fast. The larval or maggot stage lasts for about five days. It then moves to a dry place to begin the pupal stage. There is a small sac in the head of the imago. This sac can be inflated and it helps the imago to burst through the pupal case and to come to the surface through the rotting filth. The imago flies away from when its wings are dry.
