What Is The Law In Alabama When The Person You Are Leasing A Commercial Building From Sells It To A Third Party?

I have leased a building in Alabama for 8 years that I operate a retail business out of. The owner of the building has sold it to someone else who plans on making me move out and opening the same type of business there. What are my options? This was all done without my knowledge or consent and will present a hardship for me. Please help!

If there is not a clause in your lease agreement which allows the landlord to force the move, then no, he cannot make you move until the lease agreement has expired. Look for clauses that allow the Leaser to break the lease at will or can demand the Leasee vacate the property given a prescribed period of time.
If you wish to comply before the end of the lease, and you have established the legal right to do so under Alabama law, you may use this to your advantage and offer to vacate if the new owner will pay all expenses incurred in your relocation.
