Where Can I Put My Personal Web Site?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

With a personal website it is unlikely that anyone would want to pay a lot of money for security and resilient features. You may find that your ISP gives you some web space as a standard feature of your dial-up or broadband account. This would almost certainly be sufficient for the majority of personal web spaces and it would be very affordable since it is effectively free.

The downside of using this kind of web space is that the URL that people type in to access the site would not be very easy to remember. If you want to have your own domain name (URL), you can register one that you like, as long as no one else has already registered it, with one of the many domain name registration services on the web. Most of these services will also offer affordable web hosting along with the registration service.

There is now another way of getting affordable hosting, which is to sign up to a blogging site. This may suit you if your site is like a diary, in that you update it on most days. Many blogging sites are free, at least initially, but may ask you to pay for enhanced services.
