You should certainly be physically able to move your hand if you've broken it but you could find you have difficulty moving your fingers, especially if stiffness sets in. Such stiffness can be prevented by moving your fingers as soon as possible after the fracture. However, it is sometimes necessary to work with a specialized hand therapist in order to help regain finger motion.
A hand fracture occurs when one of the small bones, that together make up the hand's supporting framework, is broken. Most hand fractures occur as a result of direct impact to the hand. Common symptoms include pain, swelling and difficulty moving the fingers. If a hand fracture is suspected, your doctor can confirm it via x-ray and then decide on the appropriate treatment. Most hand fractures will heal naturally.
Treatments of a fractured hand include placing it in a cast or splint or inserting pins to hold the bones in a better position so assisting the natural healing of the hand.

The human hand consists of many small bones - as does the human foot - and breaking one or two would not completely disable movement.
