What Do Chicks Need?

Answer Question

If your chickens can run around in a pasture setting, or at least an outdoor grassy area ,they will enjoy scratching and eating plant matter, bugs, etc... But will still need some grain supplied like a lay crumble.I think that scratch grain is not needed as corn is merely a high sugar source. (Personally I avoid anything that is likely to be GMO too.) I prefer organic , as commercial feed can contain some undesirable elements, such as arsenic which accelerates growth. If they get alot of pasture/ roughage on their own you won't need to provide oyster shell or grit.  Otherwise those are good things to consider.  They will love any fruit and veggie scraps as well. Just fresh clean water, sunshine and clean dry bedding where they lay and are put up to sleep. Happy chicken keeping!
