Basketball was invented by Dr. James NaiSmith. He was a teacher and was conducting a physical education class. He was given the challenge to create an indoor sports activity that would help the kids in keeping busy. Thus he came up with the game in December 1891 during his days at YMCA Training School in Springfield Massachusetts.
