Dereham or East Dereham a traditional monastery town is located in the county of Norfolk in the East of England.
This town was built around the site of a 7th century monastery. There is also a holy well that started flowing when the body of Saint Withburga was moved. It was planned to build a pilgrimage site around the site but it never got popular. The waters are at present protected by a railing.
East Dereham was also the setting for an episode of the acclaimed series Dad's Army.
There is also a West Dereham, a village in Norfolk forty kilometers East of West Dereham. The village is well known for its round tower church of St. Andrew, which is one of a hundred and twenty four present in all of Norfolk.
West Dereham is not usually referred to as just Dereham.
