The main characteristics that bureaucratic organizations share are basically the same. First there is a controlling environment in these organizations, upper management makes the rules and the juniors follow it. There are defined steps and procedures for doing the simplest of things which makes tasks more time consuming. The lower level in the hierarchy is controlled by the upper one and the planning and decision making is centralized, all the decisions are made in one place. The higher levels in the hierarchy have more freedom in doing their work as compared to the lower levels.
