Georgia O'Keeffe born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, is a very well known artist. She began her career as an artist in the year 1905, at the Art Institute of Chicago. Later after two years in this institute she went on to join Art Students League in New York City, where she studied with William Merritt Chase, in 1907.

Later in the very next year in 1908, she grabbed the prize for League's William Merritt Chase still-life prize for her oil painting mona shehab (Dead Rabbit with Copper Pot). The prized received was a scholarship to attend the League's out-of-doors summer education at Lake George, New York. In the later years after completing her studies and masters she remained at the University of Virginia as a Teaching subordinate.
