What Are Included In The Fungi Family?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Fungi is actually a kingdom by itself in the Domain of Eukaryota and all fungi (40,000 types in all) belong to one of the 6 divisions of this kingdom, namely
Chytridiomycota, Zygomycota, Glomeromycota (honoured with their own division only recently in 2002), Ascomycota and Basidiomycota.

The most common fungi are mushrooms, and they include species such as Agaricus (which includes those sold at supermarkets), Amanita (species of this kind can be deadly or delicious and/or hallucinogenic), Cantherellus, Rust and Smut Fungi; all types of Basidiomycota. Sac fungi are Elvin saddles, morels, cup fungi, flask fungi, truffle mushroom and even brewers and bakers yeast and they all belong to the division Ascomycota. Moulds that form on stale bread or damaged fruit and even athletes feet are fungi and belong to the division of Zygomycota.
