Does Anyone Know About My Rights As A Tenant In California Regarding An End Of Lease?

I had what I thought was a one year lease that ended in May. I called in to inform the office of my intention to move, not really having any free time during office hours to come in personally. I was NOT informed that my verbal notification was not sufficient. On May 29 I was informed that I was liable for the rent for the month of June due to the lack of written notification. What are my rights? Should the person I talked to have informed me of this when I called in my 30 days?

Well indeed the person that you talked to should have told you about the 30 day written notice. But I think you are liable for the June rent if you resided there. I strongly recommend that you get a hold of the landlord/tenant board, and see what rights you have for this. Hope this helps you out. Best of luck to you.

You said I " called in to inform the office of my intention to move "
If you were a resident ( that you did not say) at the address in June, You owe June rent. If you moved out in may 29 ??, You are still a resident  because a one year lease only means that they honor the monthly financial obligation ( not raising the rent ) for that year. They would have given you a new contract to renew the lease for the same rent or an increase if you said nothing. That you call them and gave them a verbal notification should not be binding on them. NOTICE::  " The 30 day written notice " that should have been given to THEM on your part HAS to be on the contract that you received . That!! You can argue in small claims court
This is what I think !!
