Is There A Standard Grace Period For Rent Payment?

There is a new manager for the apt. Complex where I live and my housemate and I weren't even aware that he had moved in. However, we received a handwritten notice that he was adding a ten dollar late fee onto our rent when I was going to pay when I returned home this evening. He then stated it would be ten dollars for each residual day the rent was late. Our last manager gave us the impression that there was at least one day grace period. I mean- how many banks are open on a sunday?

It depends on what is in your lease, most landlords want their rent the 1st of every month, some understand that things come up sometimes they'll let you pay on the 10th or 15th. Talk to your landlord and see what he/she says? It's better to ask then assume :)

Have you signed a new lease with this new landlord? If not I don't believe he could just tell you there is a $10 late charge. I'm not sure what state you live in but just talk to him and find out what is going to be in your lease read every sentence. Make sure you unerstand everything before you sign.
