How Many Games Of Monopoly Have Been Sold?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

According to the world's largest game company Hasbro Inc., more than 200 million sets of Monopoly, a game in which players take turns (by rolling dice) to buy, rent and sell properties and amass wealth using play money, have been sold the world over as of 2003. This arguably makes it the most popular indoor board game in the world, and its popularity is probably matched only by Scrabble. An estimated 750 million-plus people have played Monopoly ever since the game's creator, Charles Darrow (1889-1967) patented it in 1935, according to company sources. It is the largest-selling commercial indoor board game in the world. According to the 1999 Guinness Book of World Records, Hasbro has cited that over 500 million people had played the game until that year, which is a staggering piece of statistical data about Monopoly. Monopoly has also been inducted into the Games Magazine Hall of Fame.
