An estimated 750 million-plus people have played Monopoly ever since the game's creator, Charles Darrow (1889-1967) patented it in 1935, according to company sources. It is the largest-selling commercial indoor board game in the world. According to the 1999 Guinness Book of World Records, Hasbro has cited that over 500 million people had played the game until that year, which is a staggering piece of statistical data about Monopoly. Monopoly has also been inducted into the Games Magazine Hall of Fame.
