It depends what type of qualification you have. If you have obtained a degree in graphic design, then there are plenty of graphic design jobs available, depending on your experience. If you have an illustration degree, then you might have a little more trouble finding work, depending on how you promote your work.

There are teaching opportunities available in both these areas, providing that you have a post-graduate teaching qualification.

Animation is another art and design area, and works the same as illustration in the way that you have to promote your work, though animation may be slightly easier to get into than illustration. Quite a lot of employers are seeking people who specialise in flash animation for websites.

The trickiest art and design subject to find work in is fine art. There very few fine art jobs available, though there are exhibition opportunities and you could sell your work via websites or possibly even have your own shop for selling your work. You could also consider applying for a job at an art gallery.
