The term saline had various connotations. It would typically refer to salinity which is the term referring to the saltiness or essentially dissolved salt content present in a body of water. The term, when used in Australian English as well as North American English could also imply salt in soil.
In medicine, the term saline would refer to a solution comprising sodium chloride (that is, the substance we typically call table salt) mixed in sterile water. This preparation is widely used in case of intravenous infusion as well as rinsing contact lenses, even nasal irrigation (in other word, the yogic practice labelled jala neti).
The term could imply a saline bath which is just one form of therapy or the Christian rock band by that name.
