An unstable building is one in which one of its components say for example a parapet has weakened resulting in more stress on the adjoining ones which may in the future give rise to a potentially unstable structure.
The majority of issues relating to an unstable structure are time related involving the degeneration of the materials used for construction. Another important factor is the effect of nature on the building for example if the structure is built in an area where there are large scale temperature fluctuations the building would undergo more wear.
There have been many structurally unstable buildings in the past that have collapsed soon after but one that continues to puzzle scientists the world over due to its existence after several centuries of its construction and in spite of its obvious instability is the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy; the tower was built way back in the 12th and 13th century in a series of constructions and stands 56 m (183 ft) tall. The tower tilts noticeably on one side as its foundation was not properly built. The tower has undergone various corrective measures throughout the century and continues to stand till today.
