Hemingway's is an American novelist and short story writer. His stories deal with the theme of murder, crime, bloodshed, despair and sufferings. He creates an atmosphere to horror and suspense in his stories. His style of narration has the following qualities.

    1. Effective and powerful: Hemingway's style of narration is very convincing and powerful. His selection of words to create the atmosphere of horror is very effective. It is through this effective way of narration that he overpowers our senses and makes us afraid of a typical situation. In the story 'The Killers' the actual murder does not take place, but it fills us with horror and suspense as if the actual murder had taken place.

    2. Suggestive: Hemingway's method of writing is suggestive. He does not describe a situation in an elaborate manner. It is the atmosphere of horror that looms behind after the killers leave the hotel.

    3. Lucid and clear: Hemingway's way of writing is lucid and clear. He makes everything clear to the reader in a lucid manner. The killers are painted in a lucid way. Their dress, their way of talking and eating and their harshness towards the attendants of the hotel have clearly been described. Hemingway is never involved and ambiguous in his description of a situation or a character. He unlocks before us the mysterious situation in a few hints.

    4. Realistic: His way of writing is realistic. He is fully conversant with the psychology of a criminal or a murderer. He lets us know through his powerful and clear style of writing that he makes a retired boxer Ole Anderson acceptable to us as a useful member of society. The killers too are painted and drawn in realistic colors.
