    No and yes.

Most miscarriages happen due to genetic flaws in the embryo. You cannot affect this except in some cases by using IVF to conceive (to test for specific, faulty genes).

These factors, under your control, you can do something about:

    Don't smoke.
Limit alcohol to small amounts or cut it out entirely.
Limit caffeine to no more than a cup of tea or coffee, daily.
Avoid obvious hazards, like trauma to the abdomen.
    Avoid poisons, ionising radiation.
Don't take medications without doctor's approval.
Avoid soft cheeses, unpasteurised foods and other foods posing a listeria risk.

Women who have recurring miscarriages (at least 3) should ask for medical tests to see if there is a definite cause. Some women suffer from excessively thick blood. They get clots on the placenta, making it impossible for the placenta to do its job feeding the embryo/foetus. This can be treated with self-administered medication.

In very rare cases, the women's own immune system attacks the pregnancy. Again, there are often effective medical treatments for this.
