The Hotel Royal Star in Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain is listed as a four star Spanish Hotel. However, it would be a mistake to expect a four star hotel in the same style as a four star country hotel in the UK. Spanish hotels tend to be more basic, and do not provide the same luxuries and service that some people think they are going to get.

The Royal Star is a cheap hotel and it provides the basic facilities for a holiday, really for adults. There are two small pools in the hotel, with terraces around and seating areas with sunbeds and also an indoor pool. Apart from a small games room and some activities put on by entertainers, there is nothing else really for children. The beach is a good mile walk away and there are some steep hills.

The food is buffet style – you serve yourself – and the choice is fairly limited and some dishes are better than others. Having said that, this is food you don't have to cook yourself, it is plentiful and there is always something that you can eat.
