Is It Illegal To Leave State When You Have A Child Welfare Case Open?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Probably depends on the state. I doubt if its illegal, but you will need to notify them if you plan to not come back. They might not look to kindly if they see you're cashing that check out of state, and you cant get any help from your new state with an open case still pending. THAT is llegal, and they will find out. I had a friend that was on welfare in Michigan, moved to Texas and filed there. Her mom sent her checks to her and used her foodstamps.. With her permission. She then filed for welfare in texas... They found out... Not only did she lose her welfare in Michigan, she didn't get it in Texas or Louisiana when she moved there. That was 5 or 6 years ago and she still cant get  anything.
