How Far Is It From The Earth's Crust To Space?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are various definitions in use but the most usual is that space begins at a height of 100km (just over 62 miles)above the earth. This isn't high enough for spacecraft to orbit - even at this height there is enough atmosphere to drag a satellite back to earth over time. Astronaut wings are awarded to pilots flying at over 50 miles (about 80.5km).
