The Gloster Aircraft Company was a British aircraft company started in the year 1917. In the year 1926 the company name was shortened to Gloster because users who were based outside UK found it difficult to pronounce the name.

The company manufactured the Gloster Grebe, Gloster Gladiator, Hawker Hurricane, Hawker Typhoon, Gloster Meteor and Gloster Javelin. The Gloster Aircraft Company was originally started as Gloucestershire Aircraft Company. The company bought the aircraft business from H H Martyn with a 50% share. As the demand for aircrafts increased many other corporation in Gloucester and Cheltenham district were assigned work.

In the year 1934 the company was bought by Hawker Aircraft limited, but still continued to manufacture aircrafts under its own name. In that very year the company released the world famous Gloster Gladiator biplane.
