Richland is a city located in the Benton County positioned towards southeastern Washington. It is placed at the meeting point of Yakima River and Columbia River. According to the census conducted in the year 2000 the total population of Richland was 38,708 and shot up to 43,520 by 2005.

For years the village of Chemna was situated at the entrance of the current Yakima River, currently the village is known as Columbia Point. Between the years 1904-1905, W.R. Amon along with his son Howard, bought 2,300 acres of land and suggested a town be built near the banks of river Yakima. Postal authorities later accepted the title of this town site as Richland in the year 1905, and in the year 1906 it was recorded at the Benton County Courthouse.
