To many immigrants, foreigners, and u.s. citizens, The Statue of Liberty means freedom and democracy as well as international friendships. The Statue of Liberty is a woman sculpture standing tall, dressed in a green robe and a spiked crown, holding a tablet in her left hand down by her side, and a flaming torch high in her right hand.

The Statue of Liberty is often the first thing that immigrants from Europe see. Sculptor Fredric Auguste Barthold created the statue for France as a gift to America. In return America was to build a pedestal for her to stand on. She was built to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
