Answer Question

The word literally means "rebirth".  If you are asking about the historical period, The Renaissance, that was a time (say 1400 -- 1550) which saw the spread of language and learning right across Europe.  It was a time that saw the beginning of printing so that many people could get books.  In Italy you had great art and architecture and learning.  In England you have learning and the spread of education.  It was the great "awakening" in art, culture and learning.

I t is a 'Rebirth' of interest that started in Italy around the middle ages. It is  the rebirth of new ideas like Art, architecture and sculpting. These new ideas were formed or produced in the north of Italy which soon spread all over. That is why Italy is the home or place were the Renaissance first  came about.

The term the Renaissance is a French word which can literally be translated as the word rebirth in the English language. The word the Renaissance is defined as a historical age that began in Italy and then spread to the rest of the continent of Europe in general. It is also known as Rinascimento in the Italian language.

The Renaissance followed the Middle Ages and preceded the Reformation. It spanned roughly two centuries that is between the 14th century and the 16th century. During the Renaissance, there was a revival of learning which was based on classical sources.

In addition to this, Europe began to enjoy the patronage of the royal court and the Pope during the Renaissance period and the period was also characterised by the development of a perspective in painting and many scientific advancements. The Carolingian Renaissance and the Byzantine Renaissance were other historical and cultural movements which were closely related to the Renaissance.
