Yes, it is believed that alcohol was one of the reasons that made F. Scott Fitzgerald lived a short life of just 44 years. And he didn't take alcohol at the later stage of life or because of some kind of depression; he was an alcoholic since his college days but got notoriety for his alcoholism during the decade of 1920s.

Some scholars say that Fitzgerald had deteriorated his health because of tuberculosis as Fitzgerald claimed, but if we believe to the claim that the biographer of his wife makes then he was just putting forth the excuse of tuberculosis to hide his problem of alcoholism. But a scholar of Fitzgerald says that he really had recurring problem of tuberculosis and it was not an excuse to hide alcoholism. Though people have diverse opinion about his health, he suffered a lot because of his poor health.
