Cat nip is something which cats really love. It is a plant which has a minty scent to it and it contains a volatile oil which cats are attracted to. Not all cats love it but most do and you can buy toys which contain it. It is extremely safe for cats to be around and as well as ordinary house cats, wild cats also find it highly attractive.
It is usually adult cats that are most attracted to the scent with kittens under two months of age showing no signs whatsoever towards it. It is almost like a drug for cats and they can start to act strangely once they come into contact with it. For example, they could just stare into space, start rolling on the floor or they may rub the catnip over their cheeks and chin. These reactions don't usually last long though with most only lasting up to fifteen minutes.
