10 Year Old Gelding, Swollen And Feverish Sheath, any Ideas, Taken To Vet Twice, Cleaned Sheath And Pizel, Kept For 4 Days And Put On Prednesone, Sent Home With Prednesone For Three Days, Still Not Better, Help!!!!
Gelding has swollen sheath, he is not eating as well and I worry that he will not be able to urinate because the sheath is so swollen and hard I am hoping some one out there will have seen the same thing, my vet does not know why or what is happening.

I really hope by now that your horse has recovered from its problem.
I thought it may be worth adding though for anyone for future reference that diet is a big factor in causing swelling of the sheath. Our gelding has the problem if he is given haylage and also in the spring when the grass is coming through. Laxative diet (bran mashes) or just restricted intake usually does the trick. Same horse also gets `filled legs` if he is kept in even for just overnight.
Hope this helps anyone out there, and I would also be interested in how you got on in the end.
Kind regards
