When I Suffer From Hay Fever, I Really Suffer. Can I Use Aromatherapy To Cure It, And If So, How?

Answer Question

Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen, so our first question is: do you know which plant produces the pollen that affects you?

And our second is: precisely how do you react to it?  Do you cough?  Does your head ache?  Do your eyes water?  Do you get cold or fever symptoms?

Whatever your symptoms, we'd have to say no, aromatherapy won't cure your hay fever.  Aromatherapy and essential oils never provide the actual cure to any kind of complaint – they just activate your body's own internal healing mechanisms.

But that's not to say it can't relieve many of the symptoms you get.

We'd suggest a visit to a qualified practitioner, but until you can get there, here's an essential oil recipe to relieve those symptoms and help your body heal itself:

25 drops Lavender, to soothe and calm
12 drops German Camomile, as an anti-inflammatory
13 drops Geranium, to bring your body functions back into balance

Mix the essential oils with 100ml cold-pressed vegetable, nut or seed oil to make up a massage lotion for use on a regular basis, and store it in the fridge, in a small glass bottle.
