    A magnet refers to a material or object which produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field can attract items containing iron. The space surrounding a magnet is occupied by magnetic field. A magnet's magnetic field either attracts or repels certain metals, depending on the ends or the poles of magnet. For details see the link below:

      I have just developed a NEW theory about the magnetic force, and have not as yet filed my papers on the subject. Here is a very SIMPLE version! The bar is but the source of the true magnetic force. The lines of flux either North or South pole are in fact the true source of the real magnetic force! For I can and have taken them away from their source, and they still exist and have the magnetic properties that WILL attract the needle of a compass at 50 feet from the bar source!!!!!
