How Is Snow Formed?

Snow is formed when water vapour is deposited in the higher reaches of the atmosphere at a temperature less than zero degrees Centigrade, and then falls to the ground.

Snow is less dense than rain, which explains why the same amount of moisture produces a greater volume of snow than rain. The amount of water in eight units of snow is equivalent to the amount of water in one unit of rain.

Snow is a granular material formed by precipitation and it is in the form of small rough particles of crystalline water ice. It has a soft, open structure unless it is packed by external pressure, and forms a variety of snowflakes.

Snowflakes are typically symmetrical, hexagon-ally-shaped groups of ice crystals that form while falling in and below clouds. The occurrence of snowfall depends on various factors such as the season, location, the latitude and elevation of the place.

Evaporation leads to condensation and, which in turn leads to precipitation. Precipitation is the form of water vapours that fall to the earth in the form of hail, snow or ice.

Air is of two types Cold air warm air .Snow falls into warm air and melts so we get rain.Snow melts hit cold air freezes when it hit something thus we get freezing rain.Snow melts refreezes into sleet as it travels through cold air and so forms sleet The water drop lets which falls into cold air nerve melts so it falls in form of snow hence snow is formed

The temperature has to be lower than 0 degrees C for snow to be formed. Snow is a type of rain (precipitation) in the form of ice (crystalline water). Snow forms when water vapour turns into ice without turning into a liquid halfway through the process (usually, water vapour condenses to a liquid and then the liquid freezes to a solid, but in this case the water vapour freezes into a solid without passing through the liquid state). This is because water vapour condenses around an ice crystal. If the water vapour does pass through the liquid state, the water droplets will fall as sleet, not snow.

        Here is the technical stuff.
Snow forms if the air in a cloud is below freezing. The water vapour then turns to ice instead of rain and the tiny ice crystals stick together until they form snowflakes. When they get heavy enough to fall, they drop out of the clouds. At this point though, we still don’t know whether they will end up as rain or remain as snow. This depends on the temperature of the air they travel through on the way down to the ground. If it gets warmer, they turn into rain, but if the air stays close to freezing all the way down, then the snowflakes will make it without melting and so fall as snow. If this occurs in a mountain area, it is possible for snow to be falling on the mountaintop while lower down in the valley the air is warmer and so it is raining instead.

        Reflection...

Once snow covers the ground, it may not melt for a while. Do you know why this is? Do you remember the work we did on the difference between the temperature of light and dark materials? Because snow is white, it is very reflective and so bounces away most of the sunlight which would otherwise warm it up. It the snow partly melts and then re-freezes, the new crisp outer layer will help it last even longer. In this situation, only a warm air mass will be really effective in melting the snow.

It starts off as water, which evaporates, then turns into a rain cloud and if the cloud gets really cold it freazes into hail. Before it turns into hail it turns into snow, which then, if it is heavy enough, the cloud will break, making it snow.

Snow is a frozen water that fall from clouds, it is crytallized water.
Snow is formed when water vapour is deposited in the higher reaches the atmosphere at a temperature less than zero degrees and then falls to the ground, but evaporation leads to condensation process and, which in turn become to precipitation process, which the water evaporates  turned into a raincloud and if the raincloud gte's really cold when the cold air passes, it freezes into hail then turns into a white, cold snow.

When water vapor freezes in a cloud under 0`c. Therefor falls like snow instead of rain. Hope this helped.
