The first European cup final (now Champions league) was won by Real Madrid in 1956 in Paris, France.

Their opponents in the final were Reims, and Real won the high scoring first final 4-3.

In fact Real Madrid won the first five European cups, holding the trophy from 1956 until 1960. During this time as well as beating Reims, they beat Fiorentina in fifty seven, AC Milan in fifty eight and Reims again in ffity nine.

Real won the trophy for a fifth time in the famous final of 1960, where they played Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany at Hampden park, Glasgow. Real ran out eventual winners in an incredible 7-3 victory.

Since 1960 Real have won the trophy again on a further four occasions, making them the record winners in the tournament with nine victories. The other victories coming in '66, '98, 2000 and 2002.
