Quilts symbolize a warm home, comfort, family and security. They have been an integral part of American and European Christmas tradition. But they have been an important presence in Asian and African homes for centuries.

A good quilt will have soft fabric that is wrapped around cotton-wool. The fabric on both sides, with the wool in the middle is stitched together. Air is trapped in the three layers; as a result of this the person is not exposed to the cold draft. The aesthetics of the quilt counts for a lot because a quilt will last for a very long time. All kinds of patterns or themes can be chosen for the fabric. The top most fabric layer generally gives a clue of the quilt user. If it is child the theme could be fairies or toys.

While making a quilt it is better to use a wooden frame because a large quilt will become unwieldy to stitch if kept in your lap.
